A sparkly set of diamonds worth £128,000, worn by Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, has been stolen in a raid on a courier bike.
The Daily Mail reported the 27-year-old pop singer wore the diamonds with a flowing white dress designed by Jenny Packham at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards a fortnight ago.
Walsh was awarded ‘Ultimate Woman’s Woman’ and borrowed long, white gold pendant earrings from the Gacce collection set with 589 grey diamonds at nearly 25 carats, 26 white 1-carat diamonds, and two white 0.25-carat diamonds, worth £19,326. She teamed the gems with a gold cuff worth £70,000 and a coral and diamond ring, worth £38,447, for the occasion.
Walsh said about the award: ‘It’s enlightening for me to think “oh is that how people see me?” It’s amazing, I’m really, really flattered.’
Diamond Jewellers in New Bond Street
After the event, the diamonds were sent back to the jewellers in New Bond Street, London by courier when the precious gems were stolen from the hatch of the bike at a petrol station. A source close to the band confirmed the theft and said: ‘Kimberley wore the jewellery for the awards, and it was being sent back from the management company when it was stolen.
‘The crime is being investigated by the police. Obviously, the set was worth £128,000, so it’s being taken extremely seriously. It’s a shame that this was the end to a fantastic evening for Kimberley.’
A Metropolitan police spokesman said: ‘We can confirm officers from Barnet CID are investigating the theft of two parcels. They went missing whilst in transit from properties in north London to properties in central London. One parcel contained a quantity of jewellery; the other, some paperwork. The theft was reported to us on Thursday 12 November. Enquiries continue and no arrests have been made.’
