Lil Wayne’s prison sentence postponed for diamond teeth removal

Rapper Lil Wayne has had his prison sentence postponed this week because of his valuable, sparkly diamond teeth.

The New Orleans rapper (born Dwayne Carter, Jr.) has a platinum and diamond grill worth $100k which he is having temporarily removed because of threats from inmates, reported the LA Celebrity Headlines Examiner.

Justice Charles Soloman agreed to delay the sentencing until the series of dental surgeries are completed. Wayne’s laywer, Stacey Richman, requested extra time for the 27-year-old to have the diamond encrusted grill removed and recovery time before starting his sentence at a New York prison. Richman told the judge inmates had allegedly said they would ‘knock the bling out of his mouth’.

The rapper will now appear in court on March 2, and his 12-month sentence will reportedly begin immediately following the court procedure. On October 22, 2009, the Grammy Award-winning artist pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. Wayne was arrested in July 2007 when police officers said he and another man were smoking marijuana on a street. The officers then found a .40-caliber pistol in the rapper’s possession.

Lil Wayne launched his solo career at age 16 with the release of Tha Block is Hot in 1999. He received four Grammy Awards last year and is often dubbed ‘The Best Rapper Alive’. QD3 has recently released, The Carter Documentary, an hour-long documentary on DVD featuring Lil’ Wayne, his manager Tez Poe, and others discussing the rapper’s life and career.
