The 22-year-old was spotted taking pictures herself of her sparkly 10-12 carat diamond rock, the engagement ring is reportedly worth a million dollars.

Comrie bought Duff a Mercede-Benz two years ago kicking off rumours of a proposal but the Texan actress stated she did not want to rush into getting married. Comrie, 29, plays for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League. The pair started dating in 207.

Blue diamond – rarest of gems

The blue diamond – the rarest of all gems – is being put up for sale by a private collector at Sotheby’s Hong Kong jewels and jadeite 2010 spring sale on April 7. The flawless diamond is from a De Beers collection of 12 rare gems presented in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium.

Last year, a 7.03 carat, cushion-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond set the world record price per carat at the Sotheby’s Geneva auction for £6.4 million.

China is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing diamond markets, reported The Telegraph, with jewellers forecasting it will be the next big purchaser of rare jewels.

De Beers is the world’s largest diamond producer. Its rough diamond sales and distribution arm, The Diamond Trading Company, sorts, values and sells approximately 40% of the world’s rough diamonds.

The company is well known for its successful marketing strategies including its marketing of diamonds as a symbol of love and commitment, the ‘eternity ring’ and symbol of continuing affection, the ‘trilogy ring’ representing the relationship’s past, present and future, and ‘right-hand ring’ worn by women as a symbol of independence.

One of its young copywriters, Frances Gerety, created the famous advertising line ‘A Diamond is Forever’ in 1947, allegedly while dreaming. In the year 2000, Advertising Age magazine named it as the best advertising slogan of the twentieth century.

Up to £350m in diamonds, cash and other valuables were stolen seven years ago from the Antwerp Diamond Centre in Belgium. Four gang members were jailed at the time but the diamonds have still not been found.

The raid has been reconstructed in a new book, Flawless: Inside the Largest Diamond Heist in History, by Scott Andrew Selby and Greg Campbell.

Diamond robbery planned for 2 years

The Centre’s vault is said to be the safest in the world with camera protection, a 24-hour guard, light, motion and infrared heat sensors, and 12-in thick steel doors. The authors claim the diamond robbery was planned for more than two years with a gang member posing as a diamond merchant and becoming a tenant in an office block above the vault.

The safe deposit boxes were kept in a safe room two floors underground locked with a key and three-letter ocde only known by the owners. The book claims the vault’s motion detector was disabled with hair spray. Polystyrene and electrical tape fooled other sensros. A giant corkscrew-like tool opened 109 of the 189 deposit boxes. One contained 140 diamonds and another 120 large rough diamonds.

Campbell told The Sunday Times: “The thieves were incredibly ingenious but also took advantage of human error. The vault door required both a combination code and key — the key was left in a storeroom just a few feet away.”

Co-author, Selby believes most of the diamonds will never be found. He said: “Anyone walking in the street could be wearing one of the diamonds. Polished diamonds are very hard to trace, and in Antwerp they can change hands several times a day.”

The engagement between the two actors caused public controversy when Law had an affair with the nanny to his children and issued a public apology to Miller. The couple separated that November.

Infamous engagement ring

The infamous engagement ring is a gold ring with nine diamonds set in platinum worth a reported $37,000. One of the diamonds was lost from the ring a few months later and another fell out in April 2005.

Richie confirmed on the Late Show With David Letterman she and partner Joel Madden are engaged and are planning to tie the knot this summer.

‘You’re not married yet, is that correct?’ the TV presenter asked the 28-year-old. ‘We’re not married,’ she replied.
‘Are you engaged? Are you planning to get married?’ Letterman then asked. ‘We actually recently are engaged, yes,’ she answered.

The Diamond Information Centre confirmed the centre stone surrounded by diamonds set octogonally is over 5-carats. ‘There may also be some onyx on the setting, or it may be blackened metal,’ noted its spokesperson, Francesca Ferrante about the vintage looking ring.  ‘It’s probably white gold, but it could have been reset in platinum.’

In a statement the group which controls about 40% of the rough diamond market, said: ‘In the consumer markets we believe global demand for diamond jewellery declined for the full year in the low single digits, although the fourth quarter showed an improved and positive trend on 2008. Demand remained strong in the developing markets of India and China, with US Christmas trading results likely to show the first year-on-year increase since September 2008.’

Negotiating a loan

Its three shareholders have committed to contributing a total of $1bn (£640m) towards the group’s $4bn ($2.4bn)debt. De Beers are negotiating a loan for the remaining amount. In 2008 the company’s underlying profits of $515m (£328bn) were lost and replaced with losses of $220m (£140m) as sales sank by 44% to $3.84bn ($2.45bn). Be Beers was then forced to cut output early last year as a result.

De Beers remains positive albeit wary about the future and stated: ‘Consumer demand for diamond jewellery is beginning to recover, driven in part by the strength of the developing markets of China and India. However, with the fragility of the world economy and perceived weakness of the global recovery post recession, the company would only expect a gradual increase in production levels, sales and prices.’

The privately held company was founded in 1888 by Cecil Rhodes and is active in every aspect of industrial diamond mining from open-pit to deep sea. It employs approximately 20,000 people around the world on five continents, with 17,000 employees in Africa.

The New Orleans rapper (born Dwayne Carter, Jr.) has a platinum and diamond grill worth $100k which he is having temporarily removed because of threats from inmates, reported the LA Celebrity Headlines Examiner.

Diamond encrusted teeth

Justice Charles Soloman agreed to delay the sentencing until the series of dental surgeries are completed. Wayne’s laywer, Stacey Richman, requested extra time for the 27-year-old to have the diamond encrusted grill removed and recovery time before starting his sentence at a New York prison. Richman told the judge inmates had allegedly said they would ‘knock the bling out of his mouth’.

Kate Hudson wore a white Emilio Pucci and long Cartier diamond sautoir necklace, estimated to be worth $1.75 million. She also wore Cartier Paris’ vintage briolette and baguette diamond drop earrings, with a 15.65-carat emerald cut diamond ring and diamond cocktail ring set in white gold. Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, picked rose-cut diamonds to set off a red off-the-shoulder dress and gold pendant earrings with a diamond ring.

Snake motif gems were also big at the sparkly event with Carey Mulligan wearing Fred Leighton’s 19th century ‘Diamond Snake Earrings.‘

Coloured stones were another favourite with 30 Rock star Tina Fey in a vivid purple satin Ferragamo sheath dress and statement pair of Neil Lane earrings – moonstone, brown diamonds, yellow diamonds and colourless diamonds – set in handmade platinum. She also wore three stacked diamond and platinum line bracelets.

Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss chose Le Vian chocolate diamond earrings and chocolate diamond bracelets. True Blood actress Mariana Klaveno picked pearl drop earrings with orange tourmalines.

Belle of the ball was Toni Colette in a full-length gown with gold-sequined bodice and several Neil Lane pieces including bangles featuring turquoise, platinum, gold and diamonds; long drop earrings with gold, diamond and turquoise; and a diamond and turquoise cocktail ring set in platinum.

“I’ve been privileged over the years to own some of the world’s most important and famous diamonds, but I would say that the Wittelsbach-Graff is the most valuable and the most beautiful,” Graff told the BBC.

One of the rarest diamonds

“When I saw this stone, I knew it was a stone we had to have,” he added. “I had the opportunity to examine and value it in my own offices, and I came to the conclusion it was one of the rarest stones I’d ever seen.”

The ‘internally flawless’ stone was revealed to the public at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History gallery.

“It’s probably the most famous diamond the world has never seen,” Jeffrey Post, curator of the Smithsonian National Gem Collection told the BBC. “It’s always been lurking out there – but we’ve never seen it.”

The stone, said to be an orange hue under ultraviolet light, was originally valued at $15m. Graff paid more than $25m at auction and caused controversy when he then had it re-cut and polished – reducing the stone from 35.5 to 31 carats – which critics argued compromised its historical integrity.

The billionaire explained: “I decided that to create beauty, or acts of beauty, is not a sin. All we did was remove the blemishes and now it’s true perfection. It’s the most wonderful diamond to hold in your hand. It’s got the most incredible feel to it – a magical feel. We have managed to bring out the true colour of the stone without changing the faceting or the shape.

“The true rarity of the diamond, whatever its history, is the diamond itself. The history will continue. Every diamond that was ever mined, every diamond that was ever polished and cut, is still with us.

“Who knows the story that this stone will tell in a thousand years time. I’m sure it will gather very romantic stories, mysterious stories, intriguing stories, but at the end of the day the true beauty of the stone will remain. That will always be the best story.”
